TUESDAY GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles surge past Trojans

The Windom Eagle girls basketball team pulled away late in the first half and maintained a double-digit lead the rest of the way Tuesday, defeating Worthington 74-59 in Windom.

Windom sliced through the Trojan defense throughout the first half while forcing Worthington into difficult shots on offense. That allowed the Eagles to open a 14-point halftime cushion.

The Eagles were able to stretch the lead up to 20 points in the second half. Worthington briefly cut the deficit as low as 11 points, but the Eagles stabilized on offense late, preserving the win.

Haidyn Sammons paced the Eagles with 22 points. Hadley Sammons added 21 points and Hannah Dauer finished with 12.

Hills-Beaver Creek kept the Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey offense under wraps much of the way Tuesday night, as the Patriots cruised to a 60-42 victory at Hills.

The Patriots’ pressure and height took a toll on the Wolverines, who were held to six field goals in the first half.

The offensive difficulty continued in the second half, as the Wolverines were unable to do any damage in the lane. Four of the Wolverines’ six second-half field goals were three-pointers.

Annika Brinkman led the Wolverines with 14 points. Alexis Romsdahl added eight points in the loss.

Red Rock Central struggled to get their offense going Tuesday night, as Adrian-Ellsworth raced to a commanding lead on its way to an 80-31 victory at Lamberton.

The Dragons were able to convert Falcon turnovers into baskets in the first half, racing to a 30-point halftime advantage. RRC was then led to three second-half field goals.

Sydney Vogel and Alyssa Cowan each finished with nine points in the loss.
