WEEKEND BOYS BASKETBALL: Eagles hold off Titans, Wolverines start 2-0

A late offensive surge helped the Windom boys basketball team claim a 64-60 victory Saturday over Tri-City United in Montgomery.

The Eagles led by as many as 12 points in the second half, but TCU rallied, taking a 58-57 lead with 2:30 to go in the game.

But the Eagles closed with a 7-2 run, taking the lead for good on a three-pointer by Jackson Joyce with just under two minutes to go. A Drew Rothenberger lay-up and a pair of free throws from Eli Lund helped seal the victory.

Rothenberger led the Eagles with 16 points. Lund added 15 points, Job Ogeka had 13 points and seven assists and Elliot Serreyn finished with 10 points.

MLAC 25-38 = 63
Madelia 21-28 = 49

A solid defensive effort allowed Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey to pull away in the second half Saturday, claiming a 63-49 victory at Madelia.

The Wolverines held a slim four-point halftime lead, but were able to hold Madelia’s offense in check in the second half. The Blackhawks went 0-for-21 from three-point range in the game.

Meanwhile, MLAC hit seven treys, including five in the second half, to pull away for the win.

Carter Olson led MLAC with 12 points. Grant Oakland scored 11 in the win.

Nicollet 19-11 = 30
MLAC 48-32 = 80

The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey boys basketball team opened its season in dominant fashion Friday, surging to a commanding lead on its way to an 80-30 victory over Nicollet at Comfrey.

The Wolverines steadily built their lead in the first half, holding the Raiders to 24% shooting from the field. MLAC also forced 27 turnovers and dominated the glass in the game, outrebounding Nicollet 47-30.

MLAC had 10 players in the scoring column in the game, with nine scoring five points or more.

Kody Wassman and Grant Regier each scored 15 points in the win. Alex Karschnik added 13 points.
