THURSDAY BOYS BASKETBALL: Eagles open with win

AE 32-41 = 73
Windom 51-46 = 97

The Windom Eagle boys basketball team picked up where it left off from last year, racing to an early lead and cruising to a 97-73 victory over Adrian-Ellsworth in the season-opener Thursday in Windom.

The Eagles came out firing, hitting four three-pointers in the first two minutes of the game to take an early 14-4 lead. The Eagles stretched the lead to 28-8 early and led by 19 after scoring 51 first-half points.

In the second half, the pace didn’t slow much, as the Eagles continued to attack the bucket behind driving lay-ups from Drew Rothenberger and Job Ogeka and strong inside play from freshman Elliot Serreyn.

Rothenberger scored a career-best 31 points in the win, including 17 in the first half. Eli Lund had a career-best 15 points. Serreyn added 15 points. 12 rebounds and six blocked shots in his varsity debut and Ogeka added 12 points in the victory.
