Roderick (Rod) Cecil Cosgriff

Age 69 of Minneapolis, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family and friends on Nov. 16, 2023, after a long and courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease Lewy Body Dementia. Rod was born November 24, 1953, and grew up in Bingham Lake, MN.

Rod practiced workers’ compensation law for 36 years and was a founding partner of Heacox, Hartman, Koshmrl, Cosgriff, Johnson, Lane & Feenstra, P.A., in 1996, where he practiced until 2017. He was a well-respected and hard working attorney. Rod founded the Minnesota Bleacher Safety Committee, which successfully lobbied at the MN legislature for the passage of the MN Bleacher Safety Act of 1999, later adopted at the US (US Consumer Product Safety Commission) and international levels (International Code Council) in the early 2000s.

Rod was an avid and dedicated Twins, Vikings, and Wild fan. He enjoyed reading, writing, and discussing politics and history. Most of all, he was a devoted and loving husband, father, brother, son, and friend to all. He put family before everything and led by example with his hard work, compassion, and love. Preceded in death by parents, Bernie and Lorraine; and brother, Terry. Survived by wife of 39 years Janie; son, Matt (Ellary); daughter, Sammy; brothers, Pat (Laura), Pete, Jerry Miller (Carrie) and Billy Miller; sister, Carol; nieces, nephews, many other relatives, and dear friends.

A funeral service for family will be held Dec. 8th, 2023, at 11 AM, at the Washburn McReavy Funeral Chapel, 2300 West Old Shakopee Road, Bloomington, MN 55431. All are welcome to join in celebrating Rod’s life following the service (the same day) from 4-7 PM at the Nicollet Island Inn, 95 Merriam Street, Minneapolis, MN 55401. Come share a memory, a toast, or a hug! In lieu of flowers, contributions preferred to: Parkinson’s Foundation or Lewy Body Dementia Association (for research).
