Medical Examiner releases cause of death for Apmann

The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s office recently announced the cause of death for Ralph L. Apmann, the Windom man who fled the area while standing trial for murder in February.

Apmann was charged with second-degree murder in connection with a 2021 death in an area behind the Phat Pheasant Pub in Windom.

During the trial, Apmann fled the area. He was eventually convicted in absentia. Days later, authorities found Apmann dead on Boom Island in Minneapolis. He was 58 years old.

The medical examiner determined that Apmann died of natural causes.
