Unique store is closing soon

BC/DC & Company is a longtime hair salon and a women’s clothing store in downtown Windom and its owners have sold the building and will be closing soon.

Dick and Barb Courts are the owners of the business and they have used different locations and buildings over the years but said they have been in the current building since 1979. Dick was a construction salesman for 50 years but retired a few years ago, and now Barb said it is also time for her to try something new.

Barb has been cutting hair and selling beauty products in the downtown for over 40 years and she said she has some great relationships with long-time customers. The salon over the years had other workers who gave service to customers in the salon but now it is just Barb until the doors close.

The store also includes a large inventory of good quality women’s clothes that are bought from the manufacturers and then retailed locally. The store now sits between Frank’s Shoes and Threads and Decor and is located at 955 Third Avenue.

“Well, it’s all kind of unexpected,” said Dick, “All of a sudden we had two people who wanted to buy a building in downtown Windom. We decided it was probably the right time to sell. We had the interest, and they had the money. So it was a time to seriously consider it with the economic times we are in.”
