City letter firmly admonishes alternative school

The mayor of Windom and the city council sent a strong letter to the Red Rock Ridge alternative school in town recently saying that they do not believe that the school’s decision to remove the SRO is a wise one.

The council recently approved the school’s request to terminate the School Resource Officer position at the school, but the mayor’s letter made clear they only did this because of legal advice.

The SRO position put officers in the school every day and had a goal of reducing violence and promoting understanding.

The letter by the mayor said that because of the close relationships police officers were able to establish with the students, the SRO program was doing a lot of good.
