STATE CROSS COUNTRY: Wolverine girls finish 16th

State Girls

The Mt. Lake Area girls cross country team finished a stellar season with a tough outing at the Class A State Meet, held at the Les Bolstad University of Minnesota Golf Course in Falcon Heights.

The Wolverines finished 16th in the team standings with 352 points. St. Cloud Cathedral won the state title with 68 points.

The muddy, hilly course worked largely against the Wolverine girls, who were led by Meghan Johnson, who ended her career with an 80th-place time of 21:05.6. Katie Johnson placed 90th (21:12.8), followed by Julia Brinkman in 107th (21:29.5), Celia Vogel in 146th (23:07.5) and Lydia Rete in 153rd (23:38.5).

Windom junior Kaylee Walklin also had a difficult time navigating the muddy course. Walklin finished the season with a 35th-place time of 20:07.7.
