SECTION VOLLEYBALL: Eagles knock out Huskies

JCC 19-21-25 = 0
Windom 25-25-27 = 3

The Windom Eagle volleyball team battled from behind in the final two sets Tuesday night, but eventually rallied to claim a 3-0 sweep over Jackson County Central in the Section 3AA playoffs at Windom.

Windom was able to jump to an early lead in the opening set, keeping JCC’s offense off-balance with a strong service game. That gave the Eagles an opportunity to set up a strong attack, with senior Tristyn Maras staking the Eagles to a 25-19 victory behind a string of kills in the opening set.

JCC’s defense adjusted in the second set, and the Eagles had to scramble more on the offensive side of the net and spread the ball out. But after trailing by three early in the set, the Eagles were able to storm back, sparked by a pair of ace serves from Ember Struck to claim a 25-21 win.

In the third set, JCC tried to seize the momentum, building an early lead and holding that lead until late in the set. The Huskies had game point at 24-20, but the Eagles were able to battle back with Hadley Sammons at the service line, eventually taking a 25-24 lead.

After the teams traded side outs, the Eagles were able to close out the match with a kill from Maras, sealing a 27-25 victory in the final set.

Struck was 10-of-13 serving with two aces. Sammons went 21-of-22 with an ace. Charlee Huska was 13-of-13 serving.

Maras led the Eagles at the net with 19 kills. Hannah Dauer and Leah Hauge had four kills each.

Huska finished with 19 set assists. Anja Nielsen added 11 assists. Kadyn Paulson had a team-high 16 digs.
