New sidewalk and apron approved for city liquor store

A new sidewalk and apron for the front of the River Bend Liquor store was approved by the city council recently at an expense of $10,475.

John Nelson, store manager, told the city council that there are safety concerns with the current sidewalk as it has deteriorated with age and salt use, and there are some lips that could create tripping hazards and create liability concerns.

“We looked at repairing the walk, but the estimates were nearly as expensive as replacing,” said Nelson.

One council member commented that since the store is undergoing a $900,000 renovation, it does not make sense to have a poor sidewalk out front when it can be made safe and whole for a few thousand.
