MEA WEDNESDAY FOOTBALL: Tigers surge past Eagles

Springfield’s high-octane offense accounted for 41 unanswered points Wednesday night, as the Tigers stormed past the Windom Eagles 55-15 at Island Park.

After Springfield took an early 14-0 lead, Windom battled back. Quarterback Quintin Tietz hit Karson LaCanne with a 16-yard scoring strike on the final play of the first quarter. The two-point pass to Tucker Renquist cut the deficit to 14-8.

Then, an interception set up a 63-yard touchdown pass from Tietz to Renquist. Tietz’s extra-point kick gave the Eagles a 15-14 lead.

But Springfield seized momentum on the ensuing kickoff, with a long return that set up a 3-yard scoring run for a 20-15 lead. The Tigers later added a 46-yard touchdown pass to take a 28-15 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Tigers were able to hold the Eagle offense in check while marching for 363 yards on the ground in the game. A pair of short scoring runs gave the Tigers a 42-15 lead after three quarters.

Springfield then scored on a 41-yard run and a 67-yard run to seal the victory.

Tietz led the Eagles on the ground with 36 yards rushing on 20 carries. He also completed 11-of-25 passes for 165 yards. Renquist had three catches for 81 yards.

RCW 00-08-06-00 = 14

Mt. Lake Area scored a pair of quick touchdowns and never trailed Wednesday night, claiming a 32-14 victory over Renville County West at Danube.

MLA struck first on the game’s first drive, scoring on a 41-yard pass from Jake Evers to Chase Anacker. RCW then fumbled on its first play from scrimmage, with MLA recovering to set up a 1-yard sneak by Evers for a 12-0 lead.

Evers added an 18-yard scoring run in the second quarter, giving MLA an 18-8 lead.

In the third quarter, Ethan Rahn scored on a 1-yard run to give the Wolverines a 26-14 lead. Evan Karschnik added a 5-yard touchdown run in the fourth to seal the win.

Karschnik rushed 17 times for 112 yards in the win. Evers added 18 carries for 74 yards and completed 8-of-15 passes for 110 yards. Anacker had three catches for 70 yards.

Edgerton 16-22-08-08 = 54

Edgerton’s ground game ground Red Rock Central’s defense to shreds Wednesday night, as the Dutchmen ran wild in a 54-14 win over the Falcons at Edgerton.

Edgerton rushed for six touchdowns in the victory, building a 38-0 halftime lead.

RRC got on the board in the third quarter on a 54-yard run by Evan Bartholomaus and a two-point conversion pass from Bartholomaus to Carter Beranek.

Bartholomaus added a 36-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.

Bartholomaus led the Falcons with 91 yards rushing on three carries.

Isaac Simonson completed 5-of-15 passes for 28 yards. Jordan Therkilsen had three catches for 18 yards.
