Windom 12-06-00-00 = 18
SEU 06-13-07-06 = 32

The Windom Eagle defense accounted for two touchdowns, but Sleepy Eye United was able to play keep-away from the Eagle offense in the second half Saturday, leading to a 32-18 victory for SEU in a game played at Sleepy Eye St. Mary’s High School.

The Eagles got on the board on their second drive of the game, as Tucker Renquist reeled in a 32-yard pass from Quintin Tietz for a touchdown.

On the ensuing drive, the Eagles were able to pin United back in its own end and force a pass attempt. Jackson Anderson intercepted the pass and raced 21 yards to paydirt for a 12-0 Eagle lead.

After SEU cut the Eagle lead to 12-6, United began to impose its will on the ground, marching inside the Eagle 10. But on third and goal, United took to the air, with Renquist picking off a pass and racing 99 yards down the sideline the other direction for an Eagle touchdown and an 18-6 lead.

But SEU was able to put together two more lengthy drives before halftime, scoring on a 1-yard-run and a 10-yard run to take a 19-18 halftime lead.

Early in the fourth quarter, United was able to pad its lead with a 15-yard touchdown pass. SEU then sealed the victory with less than two minutes to go on a 7-yard run.

Tietz completed 17-of-34 passes for 177 yards for the Eagles. He also had 44 yards rushing on eight carries.

Kevin Bleess had seven catches for 103 yards in the loss.
