THURSDAY VOLLEYBALL: Eagles sweep Saints

The Windom Eagle volleyball team bombed away from the service line Thursday night, claiming a 3-0 sweep at St. James.

The Eagles finished with 11 ace serves as a team in the win and kept the Saints from setting up their offense.

Anja Nielsen went 15-of-15 serving with six aces. Charlee Huska was 12-of-12 with two aces and Tristyn Maras was 9-of-10 with two aces.

Maras finished with a team-high 10 kills. Hannah Dauer had seven kills and two blocks and Addison Colbert finished with six kills.

Nielsen had 12 set assists in the win. Huska added 11 assists. Kadyn Paulson and Maras each had 11 digs.

MLAC 25-18-22-18 = 1

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey couldn’t sustain its momentum from early in the match Thursday night, as Truman/Martin Luther/Granada-Huntley-East Chain surged to a 3-1 victory over the Wolverines at Comfrey.

MLAC held an early lead and was able to pull away late in the opening set, winning 25-22, but the Jaguars rallied in the second set, staking a comfortable lead on its way to a 25-18 win.

T/ML/GHEC then battled its way to a tight victory in the third set before closing out the match 25-18.

Regan Christians fired four ace serves on 16-of-20 serving for the Wolverines. Phithsada Phoumivong was 13-of-15 with two aces.

Kyla Wuertz paced the Wolverines with 12 kills. Brie Anacker finished with 11 kills.

Christians had 29 set assists and 12 digs. Ellamae Peters added 12 digs.
