TUESDAY VOLLEYBALL: Eagles sweep Cardinals

The Windom Eagle volleyball team struggled at times, but was able to keep Luverne off-balance with strong serving to claim a 3-0 victory at Windom Tuesday night.

The Eagles came out firing in the opening set, forcing the Cardinals to give up numerous free ball opportunities, leading to a 25-14 Eagle win.

But Luverne tightened things up in the second set, battling back and forth with the Eagles with several long rallies. The Eagles rallied late, pulling away for a 25-23 win.

In the third set, the Eagle offense caught fire late as Windom pulled away for a 25-17 win.

Anja Nielsen paced the Eagles from the service line, going 19-of-22 with three aces. Hadley Sammons was 18-of-19 with an ace.

Tristyn Maras blasted 21 kills and had three solo blocks in the win. Hannah Dauer had six kills and two blocks and Ember Struck added five kills.

Charlee Huska had a team-high 20 set assists. Kadyn Paulson had 11 digs.

Red Rock Central couldn’t get on track on offense Tuesday night, as Heron Lake-Okabena-Fulda rolled to a 3-0 sweep at Fulda.

The Coyotes raced to a commanding lead in each of the first two sets, winning 25-7 and 25-12. RRC was able to battle back in the third set before eventually falling 25-20.

Tia Donkersloot and Mercedes Myers each had three kills. Ella Erickson was 16-of-16 serving with three aces. Natasha Erickson had seven set assists and Maia Scheffler finished with eight digs.

MLAC 17-09-07 = 0

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey put up a battle early, but Westbrook-Walnut Grove kicked into high gear in the final two sets Tuesday, rolling to a 3-0 sweep at Mt. Lake.

The Chargers fired 13 ace serves at the Wolverines, with most coming in the final two sets of the match.

The strong serving by the Chargers kept MLAC scrambling, as WWG won the final two sets 25-9 and 25-7.

Brie Anacker led MLAC with five kills. Elyza Buller and Aayla Radtke had two kills each.

Phithsada Phomivong was 8-of-9 serving with three aces. Reagan Christians went 8-of-10.

Christians finished with eight set assists and five digs.
