THURSDAY CROSS COUNTRY: Wolverine girls win, boys second

Sleepy Eye Invite

The Mt. Lake Area girls took first and the Wolverine boys were second in the team standings at Thursday’s Sleepy Eye Invitational.

The Wolverine girls finished with a score of 44 points. Springfield-Cedar Mountain took second with 60 points.

For the boys, MLA finished with 40 points. Mankato Loyola-Cleveland-St. Clair won the meet with 33 points.

Individually for the Wolverine girls, Meghan Johnson led the way, finishing fourth with a time of 21:24. She was followed by Katie Johnson in eighth (21:50), Lydia Rete in ninth (22:20), Julia Brinkman in 10th (22:21) and Celia Vogel in 13th (23:03).

For the boys, senior Kody Wassman was the individual champion at the meet with a time of 16:53. Tyrone Stout finished fourth (17:37), followed by Zach Klassen in fifth (17:44), Ethan Schroeder in 11th (18:12) and Joseph Torres in 20th (19:17).

I-90 Invite

The Martin County West/Butterfield-Odin girls finished fifth and the boys ran incomplete at Thursday’s I-90 Invite, held at Fairmont’s Cedar Creek Park.

The MCWBO girls scored 144 points. Belle Plaine won the team title with 37 points.

Belle Plaine won the boys race with 32 points.

Individually for the girls, Katie Hartke led the way, finishing ninth with a time of 20:54. Maddison Lyon finished 27th (23:03), followed by Katelynn Kennedy in 34th (23:32), Evelynn Christenson in 37th (23:47) and Hannah Cole in 47th (25:03).

For the boys, Ryan Pierson finished second, individually, with a time of 16:31. Grant Koehnen was 20th (18:00), followed by Hayden O’Connor in 79th (22:32) and David Taylor in 107th (24:27).
