THURSDAY VOLLEYBALL: Eagles fall at Redwood, Falcons rally past Wolverines

Redwood Valley regrouped after a back-and-forth second set Thursday night, winning the final two sets to defeat the Windom Eagle volleyball team 3-1 at Redwood Falls.

After the Cardinals won the opening set 25-16, the two teams locked horns in a lengthy second set, with Windom eventually claiming a 29-27 victory.

But Redwood Valley regrouped, forcing several Eagle hitting errors in the third set to claim a 25-17 win. The Cardinals then held on late in the fourth set, winning 25-23.

The Eagles were led by Tristyn Maras at the service line for 15-of-17 with four aces. Hannah Dauer was 12-of-15 with three aces. Charlee Huska was 15-of-15 with two aces.

Marash had a team-high 10 kills. Dauer and Adison Hogan each had six kills and Leah Hauge had four.

Huska had a team-high 15 set assists. Maras had a team-high 19 digs.

Red Rock Central rallied from an early deficit, the surged in the final set to claim a 3-1 victory over Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey Thursday in Lamberton.

MLAC opened the match strong, pulling away in the middle of the opening set to claim a 25-21 victory.

The Falcons regrouped, winning a tight second set 25-23, then rolling to a dominant 25-11 win in set three behind a flurry of ace serves from Maia Scheffler.

In the fourth set, MLAC started strong and built a 22-14 lead, but with Mercedes Myers at the service line, the Falcons stormed all the way back, scoring the final 11 points of the set to seal a 25-22 win.

Scheffler was 22-of-25 serving for the match with seven aces. Myers went 18-of-20 with six aces and Natasha Erickson was 16-of-18 with three aces for the Falcons.

Abby Evans had a team-high 10 kills for RRC. Myers added four kills. Addison Irlbeck had 22 set assists and Scheffler had 20 digs.

Brie Anacker was 14-of-15 serving for the Wolverines with three aces. Reagan Christians had two ace serves and Phithsada Phoumivong went 12-of-14 with an ace.

Anacker, Aayla Radtke and Kyla Wuertz each had eight kills in the loss. Paige Wilson finished with three kills.

Christians handed out 24 set assists. Phoumivong had a team-high 13 digs.
