TUESDAY SOCCER: Wings boys salvage tie, girls fall to Fairmont

Fairmont mounted a furious second-half rally Tuesday night, forcing a 3-3 draw against the St. James/Windom/Madelia boys soccer team at Fairmont.

The Wings got off to a blazing start, scoring in the first minute of the match when Fredy Garcia Saquic scooped up a loose ball off a Cardinal turnover and blasted a shot into the net.

Hector Vivas Montoya added a goal in the fourth minute of the game, taking advantage of another Cardinal defensive miscue. Then, late in the half, a goal from Edwin Luis Amperez gave the Wings a 3-0 lead.

Fairmont got on the board late in the first half, then netted a pair of goals in the second half, tying the game with just over 12 minutes left on the clock.

The Cardinals were poised to take the lead in the closing minutes, but a diving save from Erick Rodriguez preserved the tie.

Fairmont 4-1 = 5

Fairmont used a strong opening half to build a lead and kept it throughout the second half Tuesday, defeating the St. James/Windom/Madelia girls soccer team 5-0 in a match played at Madelia.

Fairmont notched four goals in the opening half, with Karissa Newville scoring a pair of goals in the opening 40 minutes.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals kept the Wings off the scoreboard, as the Wings were able to put only four shots on net in the contest.
