City deer hunt is approaching soon

The city of Windom has been taking applications online and at city hall for the upcoming and very first city urban deer hunt.

Police officer Devin Kopperud is an experienced archer and hunter and he is the main contact person for the hunt.

Kopperud said about eight applications had been received near the end of August. There will be proficiency tests upcoming for all applicants.

The hunt will occur during the regular deer season starting Sept. 18 and will be held at locations with plenty of buffer zones for safety at Mayflower Park and at the old city landfill site.

“This year is a dry run,” said Kopperud, “and if successful the program will only grow.”
