THURSDAY SOCCER: Bluejays sweep Wings

Waseca 2-1 = 3
SJWM Girls 0-0 = 0

The St. James/Windom/Madelia Wings United girls soccer team had one of its stronger performances of the young season Thursday night but couldn’t put the ball in the net, falling 3-0 at Waseca.

A strong defensive effort for the Wings limited the Bluejays attempts on goal, forcing Waseca to keep the ball farther away from the net. But Waseca was able to capitalize on a pair of rushes to score a pair of goals in the opening half.

The Wings maintained a strong defensive performance in the second half, turning aside several scoring chances. But the Wings couldn’t turn defense into offense, as Waseca limited the Wings’ shots on goal.

Waseca put on plenty of offensive pressure, but the St. James/Windom/Madelia boys soccer team had a strong defensive performance Thursday in a 3-0 loss to the Bluejays at St. James.

Waseca scored a pair of goals in the first half, capitalizing on long lead passes to set up offensive rushes.

Meanwhile, the Wings were able to apply some offensive pressure in the Bluejay zone, but each shot attempt either sailed wide or was handled by the Bluejay keeper.

The Bluejays added another rush early in the second half, taking a 3-0 lead before turning the match over to the defense, which held the Wings scoreless.
