Fall sports meeting is tonight

Windom Area High School will hold its annual fall sports informational meeting tonight, beginning at 7 p.m., at the Windom Area Elementary School commons.

The meeting will give students and parents a chance to hear about Minnesota State High School League and district eligibility rules, fill out necessary forms and meet with the coaching staffs of each fall sport to hear plans for the first week of practice.

Students also need to have concussion baseline testing done every two years, so all athletes entering grades 7, 9 and 11 should have testing done. That testing can be completed Friday between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the high school computer lab.

Additionally, records of a current physical exam are required to be turned in before an athlete is allowed to practice. Physicals are required every three years. All athletes entering 7th grade must have one completed before starting practice, and those entering 10th grade typically need to have their physicals updated.

The first practice of the fall sports season for all Windom and cooperative sports teams take place Monday. A detailed schedule appears in the Aug. 9 print and e-editions of the Citizen.
