Ruth Ann (Leverenz) Smith

Ruth Ann (Leverenz) Smith, 81, of Windom. Went to meet the Lord May 29th at “Our House” hospice in Slayton. Born Feb. 13, 1942 to Fred (Fritz) and Mildred (Nelson) Leverenz. Ruth married Larry Smith Dec. 4, 1959. they were blessed with 3 children Brenda, Greg, Peggy.

She was a wonderful cook and enjoyed all her family time. She was in many card clubs but enjoyed playing with and showing her grandkids how to play. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary helping in the lunch stand where they served drivers and crews at the Jackson Speedway.

When the family moved to Arizona Ruth became a licensed Real Estate agent. When the family returned to Windom, she was a bookkeeper for many years at the Windom Ready Mix. After the family was raised Ruth and Larry spent nearly 50 years living in Arizona. While she was there she worked as a consignor for International Classic Auctions.

She was diagnosed with melanoma. Never thought one mole could be so deadly. In her last few weeks of her life, the one thing that brought tears to mom’s eyes was the thought of missing her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Also her best friend and companion Juhl, who was a true blessing to all of us.

Preceded in death by spouse Larry, parents Fritz and Mildred Leverenz, 1 brother John, a grandson Marcus, and many other family members.

Survived by Brenda (Todd) Miller, Greg (Colette) Smith, Peggy (Mark) Behrends, 4 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. In addition, a foster daughter Glenda Spainhour, 3 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchild.

Her body was bequested to the U of M for Medical purposes.

A “celebration of life” for our parents Larry and Ruth will be held at the First Baptist Church of Windom on July 22, 2023, from 2 to 4.
