Air quality alert continues through Friday morning

The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency and the National Weather Service have issued an air quality alert for fine particle pollution. The alert is in effect until 6 a.m. Friday in Southwest Minnesota.

The NWS reports that smoke from Canadian wildfires has moved into Southwest Minnesota overnight Wednesday and will likely linger in the area until Friday morning.

People with lung disease, asthma and heart disease, as well as children and older adults, could experience health effects from prolonged exposure to the air over the course of the day today, and the general public should limit prolonged or heavy exertion in the current conditions.

Additionally, people should reduce or eliminate activities that could contribute to the air pollution, such as outdoor burning. They should also reduce vehicle trips and eliminate vehicle idling.
