SECTION TRACK: Three Wolverines, two relays advance

MLAC at Section 2A South Meet

A total of five Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey runners, covering five events, will participate in the Class A State Track and Field Meet, following Saturday’s Section 2A Meet at Mankato West High School.

The Wolverine team of Carter Olson, Ethan Schroeder, Zach Klassen and Kody Wassman obliterated the field, as well as their own school record, on the way to winning the 4×800 relay with a time of 8:07.37.

Meanwhile, the team of Jordan Linscheid, Olson, Wassman and Klassen came up just shy of a school record but held onto first place, winning the 4×400 relay with a time of 3:31.24.

Individually, Wassman advanced to state for the third straight season, winning the 800-meter run (2:00.36). Wassman passed Schroeder at the finish line, with Schroeder finishing second, also advancing to state (2:00.48).

Meanwhile, Klassen finished hundredths of a second shy of eclipsing the school record on his way to victory in the 1,600-meter run (4:25.76).

Girls
The Wolverine girls were led by the 4×800 relay team of Lydia Rete, Hannah Beyer, Meghan Johnson and Theresa Nwaiga, which finished fourth with a time of 10:41.85.

Gracie Peters added a fifth-place finish in the 400 (1:04.26). Paige McMullen was seventh in the 100 (13.69).

Boys
Linscheid added a fourth-place finish in the 400 (52.14).

Layne Wall placed sixth in the 300 (45.04). Chase Anacker finished eighth in the high jump (5-6).
