Windom 000 000 0 = 0-0-6
Paynesville 200 000 x = 2-3-0
The Windom Eagle baseball team saw its season come to a rough end Saturday, dropping a 2-0 decision to Paynesville in the Section 3AA Tournament in Marshall.
Paynesville’s defense was the story of the game. Bulldog pitcher Bryce VanderBeek did not allow a hit, but only struck out four in the game. Windom hitters made contact much of the game, but Payneville’s fielders made every play without an error in the game.
VanderBeek faced one batter over the minimum in the game, as the Eagles were held to three baserunners. One was erased on a line-drive double play in the second inning, while another was forced out on a fielder’s choice in the seventh.
Meanwhile, Eagle pitcher Josh Garrison was equal to the task, holding Paynesville to three hits and three walks while striking out one in a complete-game performance.
However, the game ultimately came down to errors, as Paynesville capitalized on three Eagle errors in the bottom of the first inning to score the game’s only two runs. After a walk and a single to start the game, three straight Bulldog hitters reached on errors, allowing two runners to score.
Windom finishes the season with a 13-10 overall record.
