Julie Cohrs Barker

A Celebration of Life Service for Julie Cohrs Barker, age 72, of Jeffers, was held Monday, June 5th at the Jeffers United Methodist Church in Jeffers, with Pastor Cathy Hoffbeck presiding. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

Julie Cohrs Barker passed away on Sunday, May 28th, surrounded by family, at Hospice of Murray County in Slayton, Minnesota.

Julie Ann Cohrs Barker was born March 15, 1951, to the late Donald and Doris (Beierman) Cohrs, in Westbrook, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Westbrook. Julie attended grade school and graduated high school in Westbrook. After high school, Julie attended Winona State University, Southwest State University (Marshall), and Beauty School (Fairmont).

In September 1971, Julie married Terry Pudenz. The marriage was blessed with three children, Rachael, Justin, and Jordan, but later dissolved. On August 28, 1999, Julie was united in marriage to Robert Barker. The couple resided in Jeffers. Julie worked much of her life as a beautician. She was also the manager of Storden Legion, where she enjoyed spending time with numerous friends.

Julie had beautiful flower gardens and vegetable gardens. She raised Great Danes and bred 10 AKC Champions. Julie loved spending time at the house on Lake Shetek and with her kids, grandkids, and friends. She always made holidays very special for her kids and grandkids, especially the Christmas Eve celebration she hosted every year for friends and family.

Julie enjoyed reading, and her favorite author was Stephen King. She watched Jeopardy and did crossword puzzles. She liked attending concerts and saw many great bands, including some of her favorites like the Bee Gees, Eagles, Cinderella, and Motley Crue. Shortly before Julie became ill, she took a trip to the Florida Keys with Rachel, Izzy, and Darcy. Her favorite parts of the trip were the sunset sailboat cruise and being able to visit and tour Ernest Hemingway’s home in Key West.

Julie was surrounded by family when she passed away on Sunday, May 28th at Hospice of Murray County, in Slayton, Minnesota. Julie was a bone and tissue donor and will help more than 100 people with her donation.

Left to cherish Julie’s memory, are her husband, Robert Barker of Jeffers; children, Rachael (Joe) Burtzel of Jeffers, Justin Pudenz of Jeffers, and Jordan Pudenz of Jeffers; two grandchildren, Tristen (Astaria) Wenisch and Izzy Bunting; two great-grandchildren, Quinton Wenisch and Willard Blanshan; siblings, Darcy (Dave) Cohrs Benson of Fargo, ND, and Shannon (Angie) Cohrs of Dovray; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Charles Sweeney of Currie, Robin Cohrs of Wyoming, MaryJo (Jim) Umschied of Spencer, IA, Maureen (Marlin) Palm of Mt. Lake, David (Maria) Barker of Rock Springs, WY, Diana Dusek of Rock Springs, WY, and Jo (Pat) Flaherty of Butterfield; as well as many dear relatives and friends.

Julie was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Craig Cohrs; brothers-in-law, Gordy Sweeney and Larry Barker; sister-in-law, Lynn Sweeney; and her beloved first AKC Champion, Shelby.
