Windom at Section 2A South Meet
The Windom Eagle track and field teams turned in a strong performance at the Section 2A South Meet, held Thursday in Mapleton.
The top eight individuals in each event and the top four relays advance to the section meet, scheduled for June 3 at Mankato West High School.
The Eagle girls were led by double-event winner Kaylee Walklin, who placed first in the 800 (2:25.88) and 1,600 (5:23.18).
Elliot Espenson added a win in the shot put with a career-best throw of 38-2¾. She also placed fifth in the discus (98-8) and triple jump (31-¾).
Victoria Robillard placed fourth in the pole vault (8-0). Ava Van Norman placed seventh in the 200 (29.62).
The Eagles also advanced by placing fourth in both the 4×400 (4:28.39) and 4×800 (10:54.86).
The top finish for the Eagle boys came with a runner-up finish in the 4×400 relay (3:35.10). Windom also advanced to sections by placing third in the 4×800 (8:32.85).
Bryan Macario Rios placed fourth in the 400 (53.02) with Charlie Smith finishing seventh (53.84). Aaden Nauman was fourth in the 800 (2:07.04). Job Ogeka finished fifth in the triple jump (39-7¾). Jacob Green was sixth in the 3,200 (10:38.28). Thomas Green placed seventh in the 1,600 (4:53.09). Smith placed eighth in the pole vault (9-6).
