Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey slugged out 16 hits Tuesday afternoon, racing to an early lead on its way to an 11-7 win at defending state champion Nicollet.
The Wolverines took command early with a six-run second inning. Regan Christians ripped a bases-clearing double, followed by RBI singles from Jaci Tollefson, Brooke Naas and Thaila Sengchan.
Nicollet battled back, cutting the lead to 6-5 in the third, but MLAC regained control with two runs in the fourth. Naas hit an RBI double and Ella Dockter hit an RBI single.
Julia Brinkman added an RBI single in the sixth and Kennedie Simon and Dockter had RBI singles in the seventh.
Tollefson had four hits in the win. Dockter added three hits.
Simon picked up the pitching win, allowing seven hits and four walks while fanning five.
