The Windom Eagle fastpitch team had its offense ground to a halt Tuesday afternoon, as the Eagles dropped both games of a doubleheader at Luverne, falling 3-1 and 13-1.
In the opener, the Eagles briefly held the lead. Tristyn Maras hit a two-out single and raced all the way home when a fly ball from Charlee Huska was dropped in the outfield.
But Luverne capitalized on a pair of Eagle errors and a hit in the fourth inning to score all three of its runs, taking the lead for good.
Anja Nielsen took the pitching loss, allowing four hits and striking out seven.
In the nightcap, the Cardinals took a commanding early lead thanks to a grand slam home run in the second inning.
Trailing 7-0, Windom scored its lone run in the fourth inning on a Leah Hauge RBI single.
Nielsen had two of the Eagles’ four hits in the loss.
Leah Smith took the pitching loss, working the first 1-1/3 innings. She allowed five runs on two hits, walked three and struck out one.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey improved to 11-2 for the season and set up a showdown with Edgerton/Southwest Christian for the conference title with a 7-3 win Tuesday over Murray County Central at Slayton.
The Wolverines took the early lead on an Ella Dockter sacrifice fly in the second inning.
Annika Brinkman and Brooke Naas added RBI singles in the third, giving the Wolverines a 3-0 lead. Then, in the fourth, Alexis Romsdahl had an RBI single and Jaci Tollefson hit an RBI double as the Wolverines stretched the lead to 6-0.
MLAC’s final run scored on a wild pitch in the sixth.
Tollefson led MLAC with three hits in the win. Brinkman and Romsdahl had two hits each.
Kennedie Simon picked up the pitching win, allowing three hits and four walks while striking out 10.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove rolled to a pair of dominant wins Tuesday, defeating Adrian-Ellsworth 13-2 and 20-10 at Ellsworth.
In the opener, the Falcons took the lead with five runs in the top of the first. Isabella Rentschler had an RBI single, Reilly Hubin hit a two-run double and Ella Erickson added an RBI single.
Mercedes Myers added an RBI single in the second and Addeson Jenniges plated a run with a groundout in the third.
The Falcons put the game out of reach in the fifth. Natalie Wahl and Chloe Ramthun had back-to-back RBI singles before Sondra Rindfleisch smashed a two-run home run. Erickson added a bases-loaded walk.
Rentschler led the Falcons with three hits in the win.
Jenniges picked up the pitching win, allowing six hits and five walks while fanning five.
In the nightcap, the Falcons slugged out 18 hits in the game.
The Falcons took command early with a seven-run second inning. Natalie Wahl hit a two-run double, Rindfleisch had a three-run double and Ella Knakmuhs hit an RBI double.
Rentschler added an RBI single in the third.
In the fifth, Knakmuhs hit an RBI single, Jenniges had a two-run single and Ramthun hit an RBI single as the Falcons ran the lead to 13-5.
The Falcons added seven runs in the sixth to end the game. Hubin had an RBI double, Jenniges hit an RBI single, Ramthun had a two-run double, Reindfleisch was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Knakmuhs ended the game with a two-run single.
Knakmuhs led the offense with four hits in the game.
Carlie Ross picked up the pitching win, working the first five innings. She allowed seven hits, walked three and struck out two.
