WEEKEND BASEBALL: Falcons, Wolverines fall Friday

Minneota broke a close game open late Friday, surging to a 12-0 victory over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove in a game played at Milroy’s Irish Yard.
The Vikings broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth, then plated five runs in the fifth and six in the sixth to put the game away.
The lone Falcon hits in the game were a first-inning single from Quintyn Vold and a pinch hit single in the sixth from Austin Imker.
Dan Kleven took the loss, working the first 4-1/3 innings. He alloed six runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out three.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey saw a lead slip away in the opening game of a doubleheader and couldn’t bounce back in the nightcap, dropping a pair of games to Martin County West Friday in Mt. Lake by scores of 9-5 and 4-2.
In the opener, the Wolverines took the lead early. Ashton Toll ripped a two-run triple and scored on a wild pitch, taking a 3-1 lead.
MCW tied the game in the top of the second, but the Wolverines regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on a Sam Pidde RBI single and when Tanner Schultz’s sacrifice fly was mishandled in the outfield.
It stayed that way until the top of the seventh, when the Mavericks strung together five hits and three walks to score six runs, taking the lead.
Pidde had two hits in the loss.
Tyler Dick took the pitching loss, working the first 6-1/3 innings. He allowed nine runs on 10 hits, walked four and struck out nine.
In the nightcap, the Wolverines fell behind in the top of the first and couldn’t recover in a 4-2 loss.
Toll drove in a run with a groundout in the bottom of the first. He added an RBI single in the fifth inning for MLAC’s other run.
Toll had two hits in the loss.
Aiden Olson took the pitching loss, allowing three runs in five hits in four innings. He walked two and struck out six.
