WEEKEND BASEBALL: Eagles top Knights Friday

The Windom baseball team slugged its way to a dominant 15-5 victory Friday over Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial at Island Park.

Four of the Eagles’ 10 hits went for extra bases, as Windom scored multiple runs in each of its four trips to the plate.

Henry Erickson and Brady Espenson hit RBI singles in the first, staking the Eagles to a 3-0 lead. Then, in the second, Drew Rothenberger ripped a bases-clearing triple and scored on an Erickson groundout.

In the third, Tucker Renquist hit a run-scoring sacrifice fly and Quintin Tietz added an RBI triple as the Eagles took a 10-5 lead.

Windom put the game away with a five-run fourth. Espenson had an RBI single. Windom added two runs on balks, one on a wild pitch and one on an error.

Tietz, Rothenberger and Espenson each had two hits in the win.

Hunter Palm picked up his first career pitching win, working four innings. He allowed four hits and walked three without a strikeout.

Springfield used a late surge to break things open Friday on its way to a 14-5 win over Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove at Springfield.

RRC/WWG briefly took a 3-2 lead in the top of the second. Dan Kleven hit an RBI single and Quintyn Vold added a two-run single.

Trailing 5-3 in the fourth, the Falcons tied the game on a Vold RBI single and a Jake Jackson groundout.

But Springfield scored twice in the bottom of the fourth to retake the lead, then plated seven runs in the fifth to seal the win.

Vold led the Falcons with two hits.

Ashton Juhnke took the pitching loss, working 1-1/3 innings in relief.
