Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey slugged out 28 hits and plated 29 runs in a doubleheader Thursday, sweeping Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove 12-2 and 17-10 at Mt. Lake.
In the opener, the Wolverines blew the game open with a seven-run fourth inning, then ended the game via the 10-run rule in the sixth.
Then, in the nightcap, the Wolverines did most of their damage early, scoring 12 times in the first two innings.
MLAC got on the board in the first inning of the opener on an errant throw after a Brooke Naas double.
The Falcons tied the game in the third on a Chloe Ramthun RBI single, but the Wolverines regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on a two-run double from Kennedie Simon.
RRC/WWG cut the deficit to 3-2 in the fourth, scoring on a wild pitch. But in the bottom of the inning, MLAC scored seven times. Annika Brinkman had a two-run single, Ella Dockter plated a run with a groundout, Simon had an RBI single, Thaila Sengchan ripped a two-run triple and Regan Christians plated a run with a groundout.
In the sixth, Christians and Jaci Tollefson had RBI singles, ending the game.
Naas and Simon each had four hits in the win for MLAC. Simon also was the winning pitcher, allowing seven hits and three walks while fanning four.
Addeson Jenniges took the loss for the Falcons, allowing 15 hits and three walks.
In the nightcap, the Wolverines raced to the lead with six runs in the top of the first. Ella Dockter hit a two-run single, Simon added an RBI single and Julia Brinkman hit a two-run single.
RRC/WWG answered in the bottom of the first, as Sondra Rindfleisch smashed a grand slam home run.
MLAC bounced back with six more runs in the second. Alana Morey and Simon had RBI singles, Sengchan hit a two-run double and Tollefson plated a run with a sacrifice fly.
The Wolverines stretched the lead to 15-4 in the fourth. Dockter hit an RBI single and two runs scored on bases-loaded walks. Tollefson added a two-run triple in the fifth, giving the Wolverines a 17-5 lead.
RRC/WWG kept the game going with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Ramthun hit a two-run single and Mercedes Myers and Rindfleisch each had RBI singles.
Morey led the Wolverines with four hits in the win.
Ella Erickson, Myers and Rindfleisch had two hits each for the Falcons.
Simon picked up the pitching win, working the first three innings. She allowed six hits, walked one and struck out two.
Carlie Ross took the loss for RRC/WWG, allowing six hits and seven walks while fanning two in three innings.
