THURSDAY BASEBALL: Saints rally past Eagles

The Windom Eagle baseball team struggled to generate offense Thursday afternoon, taking a 6-1 loss to St. James at Island Park.

The Eagles scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, Drew Rothenberger singled, stole second and raced all the way home when Henry Erickson beat out an infield single.

But Windom struggled offensively the rest of the way, recording just one hit after the first inning and having only five more baserunners.

St. James took the lead with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, then plated four runs in the top of the seventh to seal the win.

Josh Garrison took the pitching loss, allowing two unearned runs on four hits in five innings. He walked one and struck out nine.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey couldn’t hold onto an early lead Thursday, dropping an 11-7 decision to Adrian-Ellsworth at Adrian.

The Wolverines jumped to an early lead, scoring on an Alex Blom RBI single and a Sam Pidde two-run single in the second inning.

In the third, Aiden Penner hit an RBI groundout and Treyton Duerksen hit an RBI single, giving MLAC a 5-2 lead. The Wolverines stretched the lead to 6-4 in the third when Pidde scored on a passed ball.

But the Dragons answered with five runs in the bottom of the fourth, taking the lead for good.

Pidde and Ashton Toll each had three hits in the loss for the Wolverines.

Evan Karschnik took the pitching loss, allowing nine runs on five hits in 3-1/3 innings. He walked two and struck out five.

Red Rock Central/Westbrook-Walnut Grove fell behind early and couldn’t recover Thursday, falling 6-2 to Edgerton/Southwest Christian in a game played at Slayton.

The Falcons scored in the bottom of the second when Hudsen Jenniges scored on the back end of a double steal.

But the Dutchmen padded the lead in the top of the third, scoring twice to take a 4-1 lead. ESWC added single runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

RRC/WWG’s final run scored when Jayden Lang reached on an error in the seventh, scoring Jake Jackson.

Ashton Juhnke had three of the Falcons’ four hits in the loss.

Isaac Simonson took the pitching loss, allowing four runs on two hits in 2-1/3 innings. He walked six and struck out five.
