The Windom Eagle fastpitch softball team opened the 2023 season with a pair of losses to defending section champion Pipestone Tuesday at the Windom Recreation Area.
Pipestone won the opening game 7-3, then blanked the Eagles 9-0 in the nightcap.
In the opener, Pipestone scored in each of the first three innings to take a 4-0 lead and led 6-0 in the fifth when the Eagles were able to get on the board. Kadyn Paulson hit an RBI double and Anja Nielsen smashed a two-run home run, cutting the Arrow lead in half.
But Pipestone was able to score in the top of the sixth and held the Eagles at bay the rest of the way.
Nielsen and Madyson Fredin each had two hits in the loss for the Eagles.
Nielsen also took the complete-game pitching loss, allowing seven hits and two walks while striking out nine.
In the nightcap, the Arrows scored twice in the first, then used a four-run third to break the game open.
Meanwhile, the Eagles were held to four hits in the game, with Paulson, Leah Hauge, Charlee Huska and Fredin each recording a hit.
Nielsen worked the first three innings, taking the pitching loss. She allowed seven hits and a walk.
