She attended country school for 5 years and graduated from Storden High School in 1954. She then attended Mankato State University, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in education.
While working at Centenary Methodist Church in Mankato, she met Norman Kelm. They were married there on August 22, 1959. They bought and moved to a farm by Westbrook in 1962. Together they farmed the land and were blessed with three children, who also helped on the farm.

Margaret was a 4-H member in her youth and helped her children and others have the same experience by being a 4-H Leader for many years. She also co-managed the county fair 4-H food stand for several years.
She enjoyed being a member of the Extension Club for many years.
In retirement they enjoyed traveling, especially to Branson MO, and a farm tour to Germany. They enjoyed 20 years wintering in Arizona where she was active with the quilting group and cabaret committee.
She loved square dancing, dancing, quilting, gardening, baking – especially pies, and spending time with family and friends.
