Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey rallied in the second half but went cold down the stretch Thursday night, falling 49-45 to Mankato Loyola in the Section 2A Playoffs at St. Peter.
The Wolverines were held without a point for the first four minutes of the game, as Loyola raced to a 10-0 lead to start the game. MLAC trailed by nine at halftime.
But in the second half, MLAC was again held scoreless for the first four minutes of the half, which allowed Loyola to take a 14-point lead. But MLAC battled back, rallying to eventually tie the game at 42-42 with 1:53 to go.
But in the final minutes, MLAC couldn’t connect on three chances to potentially take the lead. Loyola hit a basket to take a 44-42 lead with just under a minute to go and scored its final five points from the free throw line to seal the victory.
Carter Olson led the Wolverines with 13 points. Kody Wassman added 12 points. Ashton Toll pulled down 19 rebounds in the loss.
