The Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey boys basketball team opened the Section 2A playoffs with a strong defensive performance, while the offense came to life in the second half. That allowed the Wolverines to claim a 67-51 win over Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton at Mt. Lake.
MLAC held JWP to 31% shooting for the game, keeping the Bulldogs scoreless for the first six minutes of the game. MLAC was able to build an early 9-0 lead and held a six-point cushion at halftime.
In the second half, the Wolverines came out firing from the outside, hitting five three-pointers in the half. Junior guard Grant Oakland hit four treys in the half, sparking the Wolverines to build the lead as large as 21 points.
The Wolverines also hit 9-of-15 from the free throw line in the second half, sealing the win.
Oakland scored 20 of his team-high 22 points in the second half. Carter Olson and Ashton Toll each added 11 points in the win. Toll grabbed 15 rebounds, while Olson added eight assists.
