SECTION GIRLS BASKETBALL: Second-half surge sinks Eagles

St. James 32-49 = 81

St. James caught fire from the field in the second half while the Windom Eagles went cold Saturday, resulting in an 81-57 victory for the Saints in the Section 3AA playoffs at St. James.

The Eagles raced to a hot start to the game, building a 10-point lead and holding that lead much of the first half, but St. James scored late in the half to take a one-point lead into halftime.

In the second half, the Eagles were able to keep things close early, trailing 48-45 with just over 10 minutes to go. But the Saints outscored the Eagles 33-12 over the final 10 minutes of the game to seal the win.

Alivia Letcher led the Eagles with 16 points. Hannah Dauer scored 14 and Anja Nielsen finished with 12 in the loss.

RRC 10-13 = 23
Edgerton 46-18 = 64

Red Rock Central’s offense never got on track Saturday as the Falcons fell 64-23 to Edgerton in the Section 3A playoffs at Worthington.

Edgerton started the game with a 19-0 run and held RRC without a field goal for the first 12-plus minutes of the opening half. RRC had just two field goals in the first half, as Edgerton raced to a 36-point halftime lead.

Edgerton was able to build its lead as large as 44 points in the second half, with the final nine minutes of the game being played with a running clock.

RRC finished the game 6-of-40 from the field, shooting 15% for the game. The Falcons had just one two-point field goal in the game.

Sondra Rindfleisch led RRC with nine points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
