WEEKEND BOYS BASKETBALL: Eagles fall to Fairmont

Fairmont 31-41 = 72
Windom 32-39 = 71

A shorthanded Windom boys basketball team battled back from a second-half deficit Friday, but a pair of late free throws lifted Fairmont to a 72-71 victory at Windom.

The Eagles were without senior guard Henry Erickson due to injury. Without Erickson in the lineup, the Eagles were hurt by turnovers and a cold start to the game from the field. However, Windom held a one-point halftime lead.

The Cardinals started the second half strong, building a six-point lead before the Eagles battled back behind a pair of driving buckets and a three-pointer.

Late in the game, the Eagles took the lead on a basket. But Sawyer Tordsen’s free throws with 10 seconds left and a turnover forced by the Cardinal defense sealed the win for Fairmont.

Abe McKibbin led the Eagles with 31 points. Greyson Elder scored 15, Drew Rothenberger had 11 and Bryan Macario scored 10.

MLAC 41-40 = 81
HBC 23-31 = 54

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey battered Hills-Beaver Creek with an offensive barrage in the first half Friday, leading to an 81-54 victory at Hills.

The Wolverines started fast, racing to a quick double-digit lead on their way to an 18-point halftime cushion. The Wolverines shot 47% from the field for the game, including going 11-of-21 from three-point range for the night.

MLAC also forced 22 Patriot turnovers and converted several into buckets.

Carter Olson led the Wolverines with 19 points. Alex Karschnik scored 18 and Grant Oakland added 13.
