The Windom Area boys hockey team saw the lead slip away twice Thursday night as Luverne rallied for a 5-3 victory at the Windom Arena.
The Eagles tied the game at 1-1 9:04 into the opening period on a goal from Brady Espenson. Then, at 13:59 of the first, Nick Espenson intercepted a pass and snapped a shot into the net, giving the Eagles a 2-1 lead.
Luverne tied the game with 45 seconds left in the opening period, but the Eagles regained the lead 29 seconds into the second on a goal from Brady Espenson.
Luverne answered again, tying the game two minutes later at 3-3.
The game remained tied until 5:45 remaining in regulation, when Luverne’s Brock Behrend scored his third goal of the game, giving the Cardinals a 4-3 lead. Luverne added an empty-net goal with nine seconds left on the clock, sealing the win.
Luverne outshot the Eagles 30-25 in the game. Goalie Owen Dahna finished with 25 saves.
Seeding for the Section 3A Tournament is expected to be announced Sunday, with the pigtail-round games set for Tuesday.
