SECTION WRESTLING: Cobras, Falcons knocked out

Tigers knock out Cobras

The Windom-Mt. Lake wrestling team bowed out of the Section 3AA team tournament Thursday night, falling 66-12 to the south sub-section’s top-seed, Marshall at Marshall.

The Cobras opened the tournament with a 36-35 victory over Worthington. In that match, WML benefitted from five forfeited weights from the Trojans to secure the win.

WML won just two of the matches contested in the dual, with Preston Xayachak (106) and Graycen Hansen (170) each winning by fall.

Against Marshall, the Cobras picked up victories in the first two weight classes of the match, as Xayachak (106) and Matthew Voehl (113) each won by fall.

Marshall then won the final 12 weight classes, including the final nine by fall or forfeit.

Falcons fall in opener

The Red Rock Central wrestling team saw its dual meet season end in dramatic, stunning fashion Thursday night, as Springfield defeated the Falcons 40-37 at Tracy.

Springfield heavyweight Mitchell Streich recorded a fall in overtime, propelling the Tigers to the victory.

RRC had falls from Carter Beranek (138), Evan Bartholomaus (145) and Vander Mathiowetz (195). Marshal Willhite (106) added a major decision and Bode Determan (160) won by decision.
