WEEKEND GIRLS HOCKEY: Cardinals knock out Eagles

Luverne scored six unanswered goals to end the game Saturday, defeating the Windom Area girls hockey team 8-1 in the Section 3A semifinals at Luverne.

The loss ended the Eagles’ season with a 10-14-2 overall record.

Luverne capitalized on two good scoring chances in the opening period, taking a 2-0 lead after one.

The Eagles cut the deficit in half early in the second, when Madyson Fredin knocked in a rebound of a Presley Dockter shot.

But Luverne’s Izzy Steensma scored back-to-back goals, giving the Cardinals a 4-1 lead after two periods.

Luverne then netted a power play goal eight seconds into the third period and tacked on three more goals.

Luverne outshot the Eagles 36-15 in the game. Goalie Fiona Robillard finished with 28 saves.
