Apmann believed to be in the Twin Cities area

Moments ago, Citizen Online received this update from the Windom Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on the search for Ralph Leslie Apmann of Windom:

“The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Windom Police Department are attempting to locate Ralph Leslie Apmann, 58. Mr. Apmann posted bail after being charged in a homicide case, but failed to appear in court this morning, Feb. 13, 2023, for the trial.
“Apmann is believed to be armed with a 9mm handgun and an AR-15 rifle. Investigators believe Apmann may be in the Twin Cities metro area.
“Ralph Leslie Apmann has a felony warrant for 2nd degree homicide and failure to appear for jury trial.
“If you have seen Ralph Leslie Apmann or know his whereabouts, do not approach. Please call 9-1-1.”

This is the latest news on the search, which began shortly after 9 a.m. today when Apmann failed to show up for his jury trial in a second-degree murder case at the Cottonwood County Courthouse:

Apmann had posted $150,000 bail in September of 2021. He faces a charge of “second-degree murder without intent” related to the death Juan Morales-Rivera that occurred just outside the back door of the Phat Pheasant Pub in Windom shortly after midnight on Aug. 26, 2021.

Jury members heard testimony Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The prosecution rested on Friday afternoon and the defense was prepared to begin its case today.

The jury left the Courthouse shortly after 9 a.m. today. Plans are for the jury to return to the Courthouse tomorrow morning at 9:15 a.m., when they will learn what happens next.
