The Windom Area girls hockey team opened the Section 3A playoffs with a victory Thursday night, defeating fifth-seeded Fairmont 3-1 at the Windom Arena.
The Eagles jumped on the board with a pair of goals in the opening period, then sealed the victory with a third-period goal.
Windom Area scored 2:28 into the game when Marissa Becker rifled a shot over the shoulder of the Fairmont goalie for a 1-0 lead.
Later in the opening period, Presley Dockter picked off a pass and had a breakaway, patiently faking out the goalie before shoveling in a backhand shot for a 2-0 Eagle lead.
Fairmont got on the board with 10:52 left in the second period, when a shot from the point was deflected into the air and lobbed over the shoulder of Eagle goalie Fiona Robillard.
But the Eagles sealed the victory early in the third period when Dockter took a feed from Reagan Haugen and stuffed the puck into the net for a 3-1 lead.
Windom Area outshot Fairmont 46-17 in the game. Robillard finished with 16 saves.Â
