THURSDAY BOYS HOCKEY: Eagles rally past Cardinals

Fairmont 1-0-1 = 2
Windom Area 0-1-2 = 3

The Windom Area boys hockey team battled without one of its leaders for much of the game Thursday night, rallying for a 3-2 victory over Fairmont at the Windom Arena.

The Eagles played the final 1-1/2 periods without leading scorer Brady Espenson, after Espenson suffered an ankle injury in a collision.

Fairmont held a 1-0 lead in the second period when the Eagles tied things up. A scramble in front of the net during a 5-on-3 power play saw the puck end up on the stick of Nick Espenson, who fired through traffic for the tying goal.

Then, early in the third, the Eagles took the lead when Cragen Porath weaved through traffic and fired a backhand shot over the shoulder of the Cardinal goalie.

Fairmont tied the game at 2-2 with 7:10 left in regulation, but the Eagles took the lead for good just 18 seconds later when Wriley Haugen scored off a rebound of a Sonny Heil shot.

The Eagles outshot the Cardinals 43-28 in the game. Goalie Adam Dahna finished with 26 saves.
