THURSDAY GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles rally past Huskies; Naas breaks scoring mark in MLAC win

The Windom girls basketball team mounted a furious second-half rally Thursday night, using a string of three-pointers and a late run to claim a 73-71 victory over Jackson County Central at Windom.

JCC led by four at halftime, but the Eagles stayed close thanks to sharp outside shooting in the second half.

Down the stretch, back-to-back three-pointers sparked a 10-2 run that gave the Eagles the lead for good.

Windom hit 11 three-pointers in the second half and 14 for the game.

Alivia Letcher led the Eagles with 19 points, including six three-pointers. Anja Nielsen scored all of her 18 points on second-half three-pointers. Hadley Sammons added 16 points and Hannah Dauer scored 14 in the win.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey celebrated a milestone Thursday night, racing to a commanding early lead on its way to a 52-31 win over Red Rock Central in Mt. Lake.

Wolverine senior Brooke Naas hit a lay-up late in the first half to become the program’s career-scoring leader, surpassing the mark of 1,444 set by Margo Stoesz.

Naas scored 12 points in the opening half, helping stake the Wolverines to a 21-point halftime cushion they wouldn’t relinquish.

Naas finished with 22 points to lead the Wolverines. Julia Brinkman added 13 points, including 11 in the first half.

Sondra Rindfleisch led RRC with 11 points in the loss.
