WEEKEND BOYS HOCKEY: Late goal sinks Eagles

Luverne 4-0-2 = 6

The Windom Area boys hockey team battled back from an early deficit Saturday evening, but a goal with 5:40 left in regulation ultimately lifted Luverne to a 6-5 victory over the Eagles in Luverne.

Luverne raced to a 4-0 lead after one period before the Eagles battled back. Wriley Haugen netted back-to-back goals in the second period and Cragen Porath blasted a shot with 1:05 left in the period, pulling the Eagles to within 4-3.

Haugen scored 1:43 into the third period to tie the game at 4-4. Luverne regained the lead at the 6:46 mark of the third, but Haugen’s fourth goal of the game less than 30 seconds later tied the game at 5-5.

It stayed that way until 5:40 to go in regulation, when Luverne’s Patrick Kroski scored his second goal of the game, giving the Cardinals the lead for good.

Luverne outshot the Eagles 36-26 in the game. Goalie Adam Dahna finished with 30 saves.
