THURSDAY GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles top Panthers, Wolverines win in OT

The Windom girls basketball team held Tracy-Milroy-Balaton’s offense in check Thursday night, surging to a 76-54 victory over the Panthers in Tracy.

The Eagles shot 46% from three-point range, hitting 12-of-26 three-point tries in the win.

Meanwhile, the Eagles held TMB to 27% shooting for the game and forced the Panthers into 16 turnovers.

Haidyn Sammons led the Eagles with 19 points in the win. Hadley Sammons scored 16 points, Alivia Letcher added 12 and Hannah Dauer chipped in 10.

Mt. Lake Area-Comfrey rallied in the closing minutes of regulation to force overtime, then sealed a win from the free throw line Thursday, defeating Jackson County Central 68-66 in overtime at Comfrey.

The Wolverines bombed away from the outside early on, hitting eight three-pointers in the first half to take a 34-31 halftime lead. But JCC battled back, taking an eight-point lead with under five minutes to play.

The Wolverines did much of their damage in the second half from the line, hitting 9-of-13 from the stripe down the stretch to force overtime.

In overtime, buckets by Brooke Naas and Annika Brinkman gave the Wolverines a quick lead. Annika Brinkman added 3-of-4 from the line and Julia Brinkman hit a free throw. The Wolverines then forced the Huskies into a poor shot at the buzzer, preserving the win.

Naas finished with 22 points to lead the Wolverines. Julia Brinkman added 19 points, Annika Brinkman scored 13 and Jaci Tollefson added 12.
