An e-mail was sent to Windom school parents Thursday, stating that the district was changing the date of the annual Prom from April 29 to May 6.
High School Principal Bryan Joyce noted that the Minnesota State High School League changed the date of the state speech meet, which now will be held on April 29, rather than on April 22, as originally scheduled.
Joyce stated that administration worked with prom advisors and parent representatives, the activities director and the speech coach to try to come to a solution, adding that there are sporting events scheduled for May 6, including a home softball tournament and a golf tournament in Fairmont.
“We try to avoid situations that force students to choose between two very important culminating events, and the impact on students was the driving force behind this decision,” Joyce said in the e-mail. “Our hope is that early communication of this change can mitigate any inconvenience this may cause. We encourage all students to attend prom and have a memorable and safe evening celebrating with their classmates.”
