By a vote of 4-1, the Windom City Council voted last night to keep all future Windom horse shows inside the Windom Arena.
The vote came in front of a jam-packed crowd in the Windom City Council Chambers, as part of a joint three-hour meeting of the council and city park commission. Just prior to the council’s vote, the park commission unanimously voted to keep Windom’s horse shows inside the Arena .
“We want the city council to know that based on what we have heard, the Park & Recreation Commission is in strong support for the people (horse, livestock and county fair backers) who were here tonight,” said Ron Kuecker of the city park board after the park board’s vote. “I’ve felt that way forever and I feel even stronger about it tonight.”
City officials were instructed by Mayor Dominic Jones to immediately begin scheduling horse shows and begin promoting summer events inside the Arena. Multiple guests at last night’s meeting said they would help promote and assist the Windom Arena staff in anyway possible to make sure the summer Arena schedule is a successful one in 2023 and well into the future.
