Beverly Louise Blum passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, in November. She was born in Rochester, MN, and raised predominantly in Windom, MN, before attending Hamline University. Following graduation from University of Minnesota with an MS in Human Anatomy, she moved with her new husband, George, to Stockton, CA where she remained until her death.Â
Following teaching stints, she became a co-founder of the new Planned Parenthood in Stockton, CA and served as the Executive Director of Planned Parenthood in the county for over 14 years. In 1987, she followed a new passion by founding Solar [Box] Cookers International. For 16+ years, she and members of the growing organization promoted solar cookers made of affordable materials. They educated many thousands of women in the art of cooking with solar ovens to overcome the challenges of scarce firewood and cooking in confined spaces.Â
She enjoyed volunteer-ing, playing and listening to classical music, travel, opera, and reading about science.Â
Beverly is survived by twins Barbara and Alfred Blum, and grandsons Gabriel and Avery Blum. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2022, in Stockton, CA.Â
